Types Of Acne

Not all acne are the same

People experience various types of acne and reacts differently even if acne begins in the same way. It all starts on a lesion called comedo, which is a hair follicle with bacteria, and oil blocked inside and is usually enlarged. Since this is not visible to the normal distance between talking people, it creeps around waiting to burst out in the open at the right time and take the full term of being a swollen lesion. We cannot avoid the fact that our body continues to produce oil. The oil starts to build up in the red-looking follicle.

This is how every acne start. However, they take various forms when they burst out of the skin. Here are the following typed you should know about:

I. NON-INFLAMMATORY ACNE

Closed comedo, or whitehead appears like small white bumps. They are usually blocked follicles underneath the skin. These are not serious ones because they are non-inflammatory.

Open comedo, or blackhead appears dark compared to whiteheads because of the accumulation of the dark pigment in the skin called melanin. These are somewhat larger and are pushed a little to the surface. These are more visible than whiteheads.

II. INFLAMMATORY ACNE

Papule appears like a pink bump and small in size. When you touch it, it is somewhat firm and it can show itself on the outer layer of the skin. Be more careful when you touch the papule for they are a little sensitive.

Then the next type is the pustule, which is similar to papules that are round lesions and small ones but contains pus. You can see them clearly as they are swollen and its base is red. The center of the lesion is somewhat yellow or white. Still, you do not have to worry since they do not have that much bacteria. The reason why it is inflamed is because of the sebum oil which has certain chemical.

The next type is the nodule or cyst that appears larger and in most cases painful when touched. They are also swollen, the lesions are filled with pus and are embedded deeper under the skin. This type of acne forms when the comedo’s content scattered on the clear skin then our immune system responses as it creates pus. Nodules can last for several weeks even months if they are severe cases. If this happens, the contents of the nodules harden and become a deep cyst. These nodules and cyst normally leave you a scar.

These are just the main types of acne because they are commonly seen in everybody. Whenever you see bumps or strange looking lesions on your face, you can now identify which type of acne are you having.
